Creative process

Learn more about my creative process with this video showing my process from sketch to finished painting.

I start my illustrations by sketching out the pencil rough on cheap paper. I find working on cheap paper for the rough drawing, gives one more freedom of expression, because you don’t worry about messing up expensive paper.

Once I’m happy with the design, I trace the pencil rough onto a sheet of watercolour paper by using a lightbox. My dad built me a lightbox a few years ago and it’s such a fantastic tool.

I usually paint in the flat background colours first. I then move on to painting the characters, leaving the little intricate details for last.

This painting will be part of a group exhibition titled Nocturnal Meanderings.
